Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is a boon to people who are not happy with the way their noses have developed since childhood and feel their nose detracts from their whole face which takes away the natural beauty of their eyes, hair and other facial features making them feel self-conscious. It can be performed to treat a birth defect, broken nose or issue resulting from trauma. It is also useful to correct problems that affect breathing function (e.g., deviated septum)

There are two types of Rhinoplasty Procedures

Open Rhinoplasty

Open rhinoplasty also known as external rhinoplasty, is when a small incision is made between the nostrils on the underside of the nose. This allows the tip of the nose to be opened in order to reveal the structures of the lower and middle third of the nose. It is performed under general anesthesia or mild sedation. Open rhinoplasty allows the surgeon the most visibility throughout the procedure when there is distorted anatomy such as revision rhinoplasty.

Closed Rhinoplasty

Closed rhinoplasty, also known as endonasal rhinoplasty, is when all incisions are confined to the inside of the nostrils, resulting in no visible skin incisions. Once the incisions are made, the skin is lifted from the underlying cartilage and then reconstructed. This is also performed under general anesthesia or mild sedation. In closed rhinoplasty there is no chance of visible scarring, as all incisions are internal.
